Call for Proposals: ADC’s 37th Annual National Convention!
Washington, DC | www.adc.org | March 23, 2017 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) invites you to join us for our 37th Annual National Convention!
When: Thursday, September 21 – Sunday, September 24, 2017
Where: Washington Marriott Wardman Park, Washington, D.C.
This year’s convention will be focused on civil rights issues in the current political climate. We will meet with a variety of policymakers, analysts and experts to discuss the role of Arab Americans in the promotion of civil liberties and equality for all in the age of the Arab and Muslim Ban.
Call for Proposals:
As part of the civil rights theme, we are inviting ADC members to submit proposals for convention panel sessions and workshops. Proposals that focus on civil rights are particularly welcome; however, we will consider proposals on any issue that affects the Arab-American community:
Panel discussion (90 min): Proposals for panel discussions should include a topic, brief description, and a list of potential panelists and their qualifications. Past examples of ADC Panels include, “Flying While Brown” (2016) “The Crossroads of Ferguson to Palestine” (2015), and “50 Years after the Civil Rights Act: Challenges and Opportunities” (2014).
Workshop (90 min): Workshops allow for a deeper focus on a specific issue or field. Workshops might be professional development focused or subfield specific. Proposals for workshops should clearly articulate the learning objectives that the proposed workshop seeks to teach participants, as well as how the workshop will benefit the Arab-American community and ADC’s mission. Past examples of ADC Convention workshops include, “Grass Roots Empowerment Luncheon” (2016), “Youth Organizing Session: The Future of the Civil Rights Movement” (2015), “Activism in the Arts: How to Create Change through Artistic Expression” (2014).
